Meet Our Teachers
Ms. Molly Slough
Ms. Molly has been the owner of Grandma’s Place at Center Village since January, 2016. Prior to obtaining the business she helped operate it with her sister and parents. Molly attended St. Mary’s Academy High School in Portland, and then received her Bachelors of Science and Master’s degree at Oregon State University. She has 3 teenage daughters and three dogs.

Ms. Becca Kortum
Ms. Becca has been with Grandma’s Place since 2002, and at the Center Village location since 2014. She was raised in Portland and attended Franklin High School and Clackamas Community College for Early Childhood Education. Becca has a son in high school. She loves to garden and raise chickens. On weekends, she likes to go on long hikes throughout Oregon.

Miss Amanda Bowman
Miss Amanda is a Teacher in the Wobbler Room. She is originally from Minnesota and recently graduated from Portland State in Women's Studies and Social Science in June 2016. She also ran cross country and track for PSU (Go Vikes!). She has been a part of the Grandma’s Place team since August of 2016. Miss Amanda is passionate about working with children because it is fun and exciting to be a part of their learning and growing process. She is very interested in working with children through art, physical activity, and gardening. In her free time, you can find her running, hiking, checking out music shows, and baking.
Miss Anisa Sheikh
Ms. Anisa is from Somalia and has lived in Portland for since 1999. She graduated from Madison High School. She has worked in early childhood education for 9 years and has spent that whole time as a part of the Grandma’s Place team. She is a native Somali speaker and teaches her own children this by reading them stories in Somali. In her free time she enjoys doing makeup, spending time with friends, and taking her children to the park.

Miss Haley is Teacher in the Toddler room. She was born in San Francisco and grew up in SE Portland. She graduated from Cleveland High School, and recently received her bachelor of science in early childhood development from Oregon State University. She has been a part of the Grandma’s Place team since August of 2016. Miss Haley has a strong passion for working with children and the positive impact she can on each child’s life through early education. She loves watching each individual child learn and grow, while also being silly and learning new games. Her favorite children’s books are Goodnight Moon and Horton Hears a Who.
Miss Kala Peterson
Ms. Kala is a Teacher in our Preschool program. She was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Jefferson High School. Ms. Kala has worked in early childhood education for 10 years and has been a part of the Grandma’s Place team since 2015. Ms. Kala is passionate about teaching and loves being with her class every day. She also has a license in Cosmetology. In her free time she does hair, spends time with her large family (including her 4 children), and loves to go dancing.

Miss Rachael Almada
Ms. Rachael is a Teacher in our Preschool program. She was born and raised Portland, Oregon and has her Associates in Education from Mt. Hood Community College. Ms. Rachael has worked in early childhood education since 2013 and has taught English in both Argentina and Taiwan. She has been a part of the Grandma’s Place team since February 2016. She speaks conversational Spanish and hopes to be fluent one day. In her free time she enjoys running, playing tennis, and playing with her dog.

Miss Rahma Mukhtar
Ms. Rahma is a Classroom Aid and is Portland Community College in pursuit of her Associate’s Degree. She joined the Grandma’s Place family in January, 2016. Rahma is the first person in her family to be born in America. She likes to play softball and in her free time likes to watch TV or Netflix.
